Sit, Stay, Read

By Pamela Redmond Satran
Bloomsbury USA, $18.00, 176 pages

Do you know someone who is crazy about their dog? Maybe they dress the in frilly clothes, carry them in a little purse tucked safely under one arm or take them to a salon to get paw pedicures. Perhaps YOU do these things! If you or your neighbor exhibits this kind of behavior, Pamela Redmond Satran’s book is for you. Rabid: Are Your Crazy About Your Dog or Just Crazy? explores ways owners worship their canine friends. Satran’s book is filled with fun facts about dog products and services available today. Did you know that you can arrange for your pooch to have aromatherapy exfoliating facial scrubs, perfume sprays, henna and hair extensions? Illustrations throughout the book provide visual examples of hairstyles, clothing and luxury dog houses that are on the market. Some sections contain useful information; Satran recommends dog books and canine websites. Check out wikifido.com for a wiki take on the four-legged species you love. Satran does make jokes about what to do with your dog’s ashes and fur after death, so people who are sensitive about this topic should avoid this book. Her black humor only pops up a handful of times. Overall, this book is a fun, laugh-out-loud read.
