Renegade’s Pride is the first novel in this new series, Cahill Ranch. It is considered a romantic suspense with a western setting. Trask Beaumont is the handsome heart throb of the story. Accused of murder nine years ago, Trask ran away. Now he is back to clear his name and profess his love to Lillie. Proud and independent, Lillie now owns the Stagecoach Saloon with her twin brother, Darby. Her older brother Flint is the sheriff in town who had accused Trask of the murder nine years ago, and still believes Trask committed the crime. Lilly decides to help Trask clear his name. Knowing almost everyone in this town, she starts knocking on the doors of work and family members of the victim, which stirs up trouble for her. When someone starts coming after Lillie, Flint begins to understand that Trask may not be responsible after all. Determined to find the real killer, Trask and Lillie find themselves close to becoming victims themselves when they venture too close to the truth.
B.J. Daniels has introduced a colorful cast of characters in this Montana town. Along with the Cahill family, there is a whole town of quirky characters: Ely Cahill is a strange old man who enjoys going gold-panning in the mountains near his home since his wife died; Flint, who is busy as the sheriff, tries to keep distance between himself and ex-wife Celeste; and Darby is looking for that one special lady. The setting in the beautiful state of Montana with its wide western blue skies is the perfect place for a wild west romance to flourish and a few crimes of passion to unravel. This is a nice romantic suspense novel that is a quick read – perfect for a weekend’s diversion.
