Reader’s Digest, $14.99, 336 pages

Laura Lee’s book, Don’t Screw Up!, begins with a chapter on your home. A hugely diverse array of subjects are explained clearly – opening clamshell packaging without losing your mind or a finger, or keeping your cat from shredding your furniture. Starting with “Don’t Screw Up Your…”, some titles of other chapters include DIY, Food, Transportation, Computer, and Relationships. There are many more chapters on everyday things we all need to know. Reading this stunning book, one discovers many ways to do things smarter and better.

As a vastly experienced screw-up, I knew I needed this book as soon as I saw the title. Sure, I know a lot about the subjects listed, but I was surprised to learn something new on almost every page. I wish this book had been available decades ago!
