A Few Words Can Make a Difference

By Paul Smith

Amacom, $24.95, 280 pages

People forget that sometimes a good manager also knows a good story or two. Lead With A Story challenges leaders to tell more tales, as those tales not only bring people together but are also efficient ways to get the point across. Paul Smith shows the effectiveness of stories and how important they can be in today’s workplace and how they have transformed the companies that have used them to make points on how to better do business.

For managers looking to be more efficient at their jobs, this is an excellent book. Even now and then the book tries too hard to push the philosophy, as there are some times when a story can get in the way, but in general this is an excellent book. The stories presented are great, and their aid in illuminating both the history of business and showing the expedience of stories is very nice. Also, the instructions on how to tell a story are a very nice touch, given how few people can actually tell a good story. If you are serious about management and adding a few tools to your toolbox, this is a valuable book.
