An Exciting New Eve Duncan Thriller

By Iris Johansen
St. Martin’s Press, $27.99, 352 pages

Eve Duncan, a forensic sculptor, begins with a skull and models a face to help identify the lost for the sake of their families. Since losing her own daughter, it has become her mission. As she finishes a reconstruction for a distant police department, she is unaware of a man hiding nearby, who has worked for years on a plot to kidnap her. Her detective husband is out of state testifying at a trial, but Eve is expecting her adopted daughter, Jane, to arrive shortly for a visit. When Jane calls saying her beloved dog is sick and she is taking him to a veterinary friend in the Caribbean, Eve is suddenly feeling very alone. Then Eve is drugged and kidnapped, and taken halfway across the country. She soon realizes that she is on her own and must try to escape without help. Her captor reveals the skull of his late son, and wants Eve to sculpt him. But that’s not all.

The New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen has long been known for creating unforgettable characters and suspenseful plots. Some previous works include Sleep No More, Close Your Eyes, What Doesn’t Kill You, and many more.

The plot of Taking Eve is sharp and peppered with surprises. As always in Johansen’s novels, the main characters are authentic and endearing. This wonderful book is so engrossing, I lost all track of time while reading it and just couldn’t seem to put it down. This is the first of a planned trilogy and I can’t wait for the next one!
