by Brian Froud, and John Matthews

Abrams, $24.95, 80 pages

Brian Froud, the critically acclaimed fantasy illustrator, and author John Matthews have collaborated on a dark, and brilliantly executed art book. Faeries are all around us, and they’re only seen when they want to be seen, this book gives the reader hints and advice on what to look for. How to See Faeries is an interactive book, a combination of John Matthews poetry, and Froud’s playful, yet brooding art.

How to See Faeries utilizes pop-ups, doors and lenticular images, giving the reader a sense of finding the hidden. I hesitate to call it a children’s book. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone with a keen sense of imagination, and for those who aren’t afraid of the dark. Show the dark and haunted teenage girl in your life that you really do understand them, this book makes a wonderful gift.
