Do you want to expand your knitting knowledge? Check out Knitting Block by Block: 150 Blocks for Sweaters, Scarves, Bags, Toys, Afghans and More by Nicky Epstein. You’ll begin by knitting basic building blocks that will be the framework for more intricate designs. This book is a great resource filled with clear and beautiful photos alongside the instructions. Epstein offers design tricks to creatively use counterpane and cable blocks in your work. For example, she suggests positioning the counterpanes at an angle to achieve a unique pattern. In one section you’ll find instructions to make afghans, pullovers, vests, shawls, and sweaters. Experienced knitters can refine their knowledge by learning special techniques. If you are just starting to knit, learn to use domino, mosaic, lace, embossed, and reversible designs. Making small blocks is a great way to practice these styles. In the Creative Colorwork chapter, you’ll learn about techniques that use two or more colors to create motifs, edging, and patterns. Subjects for projects include dinosaurs, skulls, birds, flowers, cats, and panda bears. Happy knitting!
