Chronicle Books, $8.99, 22 pages

Even though Halloween has come and gone this year, it does not mean children should stop enjoying books that feature the fun and creepy parts of life. J. Otto Seibold and his book Count, Dagmar! encourages kids to do just that. Little ones will love this board book that focuses on counting to 10. Who better to count with than a real Count! Dagmar likes creepy, slimy, and spooky things all year long. He likes them so much that he plans to throw a party. But he needs help decorating. Your child can help Dagmar get ready by counting fuzzy bats, funny spiders, friendly skeletons, feathery owls, his favorite candy, and more. Seibold does a great job with the illustrations. They are colorful and bold. Kids will want to study each page very carefully because Seibold fills them with wonderful details. The spiders wearing hats and backpacks are sure to cause some giggles. The glowing pumpkins are accompanied by beautiful Dia de los Muertos sugar skulls. What a fun way to introduce Day of the Dead. Kids will love flipping the flaps on each page to see the number of items Count Dagmar is using to decorate. Happy counting!
