The Thing You Think You Cannot Do: Thirty Truths about Fear and Courage challenges readers to analyze and contemplate their lives. Doctor Gordon Livingston draws heavily from his experiences as a soldier and psychologist. He writes about ways individuals react to different situations. Substantial consideration is given to what motivates a person to act for the common good instead of for the self. Dr. Livingston’s discussion of courage is very interesting. He also writes about fear and ways it can diminish or expand life choices and possibilities. Some readers may be bothered by the way Livingston shares personal opinions about faith, religion, modern culture, education, gender and other issues. Depending on the reader’s values, these opinions can be enlightening or offensive. This book will appeal to the readers who wishes to reflect upon personal beliefs and actions in order to gain greater inner strength.
