Science fiction, manga, and animaguiri meets knit one, purl two

By Joan of Dark a.k.a Toni Carr
Accord Publishing, $16.99, 134 pages

Knits For Nerds, by Toni Carr, is a fun book for the casual knitter. The book is made up of multiple projects based upon science fiction, fantasy and comic book characters. Popular and well known characters such as Princess Leia, hobbits and the Harry Potter cast are represented, as well as more “cult” characters such as those from A Clockwork Orange. Overall the patterns are easy to read, particularly for newer knitters. However, it was a little disappointing to find that some of the patterns lack critical details. For example, the Star Trek uniforms did not contain a pattern section for the communicator badges located on the breast of the shirt. That said, other patterns such as a mini-hat did contain nice detailing and styling. This book is a nice resource if you are searching for new and unique knitting projects. If you pick a pattern styled after your favorite character, you just may need to experiment a bit and make desired tweaks to capture accurate details.
