While waiting for her cupcakes to bake, Posy, the rabbit, hears a tap at the window and sees a giant blue hand. Then she hears a growl and sees big eyes. Now she is really scared! When she realizes that it is just her friend Pip, the mouse, in a monster costume, Posy stops crying. Pip gives the costume to Posy so she can have a turn being the monster. A happy ending finds the friends outside sharing cupcakes in the sunshine. Kids ages 2-5 will love the cover of the book. It is puffy and fun to hold. Scheffler’s colorful illustrations are filled with details. Young readers will hunt for animals on every page. Posy’s stuffed frog helps her be brave when she is so scared. Children will relate to the character’s feelings of boredom, fright, relief and happiness. They will also learn about bravery and sharing.
