Predator Becomes a Protector
By Chuck Wendig
Abaddon Books 9.99 320 pages
Coburn has spent the last century as a vampire. Things were going quite well until he was injured so badly and buried so deeply that he spent five years underground. He awakes in a post-apocalyptic world to find that nearly all of human civilization has been wiped out. Zombies are running rampant and the flesh of the walking dead (aka double dead) cannot sustain him. Upon meeting a group of humans, Coburn quickly realizes that he must fight his very nature and protect them in order to preserve the food supply. Can his flock lead him to more survivors?
Double Dead by Chuck Wendig is a fast-paced unique addition to the horror genre. Wendig starts with a monster of a main character, throws in a road trip in a Winnebago, and ends up with an entertaining read filled with dark humor and action. Along the way, Coburn begins to remember how he ended up buried six feet under. Although his heart has stopped beating, he finds himself growing attached to his human “blood bags,” but even new sentimental feelings don’t stop Coburn from being one excellent bad guy. Look for upcoming books in the series.
