The Continuation of a Beautifully Written Series

Anne Elizabeth Stengl

Bethany House, $14.99, 384 pages

When we last left Rose Red and her friend and master, Lionheart or Leo, she had left her mountain home and followed him to his kingdom to be his friend and servant. When the village rises up against her, accusing her of being a demon, Leo feels forced to banish Rose to the Wilderlands. Plagued with guilt and excuses, Lionheart loses his kingdom and decides to pursue Rose Red and try to save her from the Goblin King. He soon finds himself facing the ultimate choice and must decide if he has the courage to save Rose and himself.

Moonblood continues the story of Rose Red and her friend Leo. This is a beautifully written series that is vivid and rich in language. The story is primarily one of faith and courage – how to regain faith when it has been lost and having the courage to choose what is right, no matter the consequences. The author deftly shows how different characters struggle with these things in drastically different ways. The Christian allegory continues to be wound around myth and fairy tale. Fans of the series will enjoy this new book and fans of fantasy should start reading!
