POWELL’S Books to Host live twitter chat With lisa o’donnell
The author of ‘The Death of Bees’ will answer questions about her book in real time.
January 4, 2013 (Portland, Ore.) – In an exclusive online event, Powell’s Books will be joined by author Lisa O’Donnell on Tuesday, January 8, at 1 p.m. (PST) to discuss her critically acclaimed debut novel, The Death of Bees. Fans will have the opportunity to ask the author questions and receive real-time responses on Twitter @Powells using the hashtag #indiechats.
Lisa O’Donnell grew up on the small island of Bute in Scotland. She began her career as a screenwriter and won the Orange Screenwriting Prize in 2000 for The Wedding Gift. In the same year, she was nominated for the Dennis Potter New Screenwriters Award. O’Donnell is now a full-time writer and lives in Los Angeles with her two children.
Originally published in the U.K. in 2012, The Death of Bees was released in the U.S. on January 2 by HarperCollins. The blackly comic novelfollows 15-year-old Marnie and 12-year-old Nelly as they grow up in a low-income housing estate in Glasgow, Scotland. Following the mysterious death of their parents, the sisters struggle to hold it together, and dark secrets threaten to wreck their fragile existence. The Herald (Scotland) raves, “The Death of Bees is compelling stuff, engaging the emotions from the first page and quickly becoming almost impossible to put down.”
The Death of Bees is featured in the latest installment of Powell’s subscription book club, Indiespensable.
