The value of a snuggly blue blanket
By Tatyana Feeney
Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers, $16.99, 32 pages
Children grow attached to certain toys. In Tatyana Feeney’s Small Bunny’s Blue Blanket, Bunny is smitten with his cuddly blue toy. Bunny does everything with his little blue friend – everything from swinging to playing in the sandbox.
But, when Bunny’s mother says it’s time to give blue blanket a bath, Bunny is worried. Blanket isn’t the same. It takes Bunny a few days of playing in the sand and swinging together with blanket on the swings before blanket is back to normal.
Small Bunny’s Blue Blanket is a wonderful book sure to hook any child who has loved a toy. The simple blue and white images with collage and mixed media are eye catching and fun for children to follow along with. While Bunny’s mother is trying to wash blue blanket, Bunny even hides under the bed and children will have fun trying to find Bunny and blanket.
This is Feeney’s first children’s book – though the artist has illustrated several other books. Her art expertise comes from time spent studying art history at University of North Carolina, and design at the Art Institute of Atlanta.
