Biting Humor with Friendship Message

By Lincoln Peirce

Harper, $13.99, 216 pages

Nate is back with his biting humor and middle-grade troubles. Nate and Francis plan to take on Gina, a know-it-all, smarty-pants filling the role of yearbook editor. When Nate loses the school camera, his best friend Francis goes ballistic. Nate attempts to mend his ways, seeking the help of a hypnotist to be more responsible and less messy. However, becoming more like his friend Francis doesn’t guarantee a closer friendship. In the end, Francis finds he likes Nate just the way he’s always been, delivering a message that true friends accept each other as they are. Throughout the story, Nate shows his smart-aleck ways and delivers enough potty humor to keep a third or fourth grade reader entranced. With more pictures than text, this volume will give kids confidence to read a bigger book.
