Maisy Takes on Arts and Crafts!

By Lucy Cousins
Candlewick Press, $16.99, 32 pages

Lucy Cousins’ iconic character, Maisy, has charmed kids for years. This reviewer’s daughter loved all the characters, including Eddie the elephant, Tallulah the squirrel, and Panda. In Cousins’ latest book, Create with Maisy, she has created Maisy’s first arts and crafts book. In Maisy’s typical style, this book is colorful and whimsical. The book has photographs of the projects, but line art of Maisy, her friends and the instructions. The premise of the book is that “making things is fun”. The instructions are simple and most of the supplies should already be in your home. The author even suggests using something different if you do not have the listed supply.

Maisy loves making things and this book will inspire your child to love making things, too. With simple items like cardboard, beads, pipe cleaners, paint and dried beans, your child can make a wide range of crafts such as a food garden, vegetable prints, a feathery mask, tissue flowers and 13 other projects outlined in this book. As a parent, you are probably already familiar with all the craft ideas in this book, but your four-year-old and up will be excited about all the possibilities for days to come.
