By Kelly Edwards
Medallion Press, $27.95, 335 pages

The Design Cookbook, by Kelly Edwards, is a resource packed with design ideas for every room in your home. Since Edwards is a seasoned HGTV star and a self-taught designer, her book is focused on making design seem simple and achievable. Edwards opens the book with practicalities such as defining your style, determining your budget, picking colors, planning the space and even includes recipes for designing like a celebrity. The book is divided into sections by room, including dining room, kitchen, kid’s room, living room, bathroom, bedroom and office. Each room chapter is divided into different styles, such as retro glamour, conversational dining, beach bungalow and more. Every design section gives the reader ingredients, the recipe (or steps) and lots of pictures. The book is flooded with full-page photos and text boxes containing comments or suggestions. The pictures offer examples and inspiration for any room in your home.

“Whether you have fifty or fifty thousand dollars, here’s to designing a space you look forward to coming home to every day!”

The kid’s room chapter was my favorite because it offered so many versatile ideas. Several do-it-yourself projects are also included in the book. This is a book that is fun to read and look through. It will inspire you and make design seem a little less daunting.
