Fall Asleep with Mystical Creatures from the Land and Sea

By Ann Bonwill, Illustratrated by Steve Johnson & Lou Fancher

Random House Children’s Books, $16.99, 32 pages

When Mermaids Sleep is the perfect bedtime book about how all creatures sleep. Most of the characters are mystical, such as fairies, wizards and mermaids, but a few are real, such as pirates and a child. The mermaids are lulled to sleep inside their coral caves, while pirates snore in their bunks. Royal serpents slumber as wizards look at Mars and the stars. Unicorns sleep on pillows made of leaves and goblins sleep in giants’ shoes. The words are lyrical and dreamy and the pictures are whimsical and colored in dark hues with lots of detail. All animals on the pages are soon sleeping and your little one will be heavy-eyed and drifting off, too.
