Hat season is definitely upon us in the Northwest. The book Whimsical Hats: Delightful and Amusing Hats to Knit, Wear and Love by author and knitter Lynne Rowe is a great new book with fresh ideas for hats for children (and the occasional adult). The book contains a wide variety of hat categories including holidays, seasons, dress-up, and animals. The hats themselves are fanciful and cute and are perfect for children. Favorites for this reviewer include the beehive, the Christmas tree, the chef, and the owl. The patterns are for a wide variety of skills from beginner to expert. The knitter does need to be comfortable and familiar with knitting in a round for these designs. Additionally, there are some patterns that involve details with crocheting so a few patterns might not be an option for those who knit only. There are color pictures and detailed instructions for each pattern and the book overall is easy to read and interpret. This is a great book for knitters.
