Given that it is a National Geographic publication, that Where the Locals Go has great photographs of many exotic locales comes as no surprise. But this book offers so much more than just colorful photos. Where the Locals Go is overflowing with insider information on just about every location you can think of. It highlights over 300 locations and is organized by region: North America, South America & the Caribbean, Europe, Great Cities, Africa & the Middle East and finally Asia & the Pacific.

“This book is a sparkling, surprising collection of the off-the-beaten-track finds, ah-hahs, neighborhood secrets, and the pleasures of those who live in a place 24/7.”

Full-color photographs accompany information about each experience, including an introductory blurb, background (“In the Know”), where to go, joining in, where to eat and other essential knowledge. Some entries are extravagant and others are as simple as knowing where to go for BBQ in Memphis, Tennessee. This reviewer loved the highlighted “Dig Deeper” boxes, for the traveler who wanted an even more authentic experience. For travelers with wanderlust, this book will only heighten the need to travel the globe.
