This level three reader will delight your horse and pony lover, as he learns to solidify his reading skills. The book is littered with all kinds of facts such as horses actually laugh, they have been around for at least 5000 years, and horses live 20 to 30 years. The book explains the distinction of a horse versus a pony. Body parts (or points) are diagramed and the various breeds are discussed. The care and feeding of horses is described and the tack and competing of horses is reviewed. The last page of the book includes a glossary of important terms. It is truly amazing how much information this slim book contains!

There are plenty of colorful photographs included, with some photos containing labeling for extra explanation. Some text is bolded and in red to show extra emphasis. The text is dense, though, so readers will probably need to highlight or underline key concepts so that they can locate the information easily. Overall, this book will provide plenty of information to any reader that wants to learn more about horses and ponies.
