All Barbie lovers out there will learn about Barbie’s famous creator in this short story! Ruth Handler was the creative and artistic inventor of the Barbie doll. Her motive for this invention was her young daughter, Barbara, who had outgrown her baby dolls and was now playing with paper dolls and creating adventures for them. Ruth decided to create a teenage doll with lots of different clothes that would inspire new adventures. Some creative clothes adventures included being a ballerina, a nightclub singer, or a nurse. However, Ruth’s creative idea was not an instant success with Mattel Toys. She persevered and Barbie was introduced to the Toy Fair in 1959. Barbie’s success grew each year and her clothes continued to evolve with her new adventures. Barbie continues to challenge young girls today to imagine the possibilities.
