God Has Saved Us From Bad Vampire Novels!

By Kate Locke

Orbit, $16.99, 368 pages

Not all supernatural romances need to focus on the romance, and it helps. In God Save The Queen! the black plague is mutated into bacterium capable of causing human mutation into vampires, werewolves, and goblins. Queen Victoria, is one of the first mutated, ensuring that the aristocracy would consists of vampires and werewolves, with the goblins acting as an untouchable caste. Xandra Vardan investigation of her sister death, quickly leads to a possible scandal capable of bringing down the aristocracy. The things are getting more complicated when werewolf Alpha falls in love with her. While all is resolved by the end of the book, the Queen is not happy about it.

This is one of those rare books where the combination of sex, action and overall naughtiness works. Even the first-person perspective is tasked to perfection, the characters are solid, and the history is told in such a way that could be easily followed without being confused. Although this feels like the first book in a series, it is without doubt a nice standalone book. If you are looking for a supernatural romance that you can actually enjoy, start here.
