Make MagicBook of Poetry Inspires Young Readers to Make a Difference

By Dallas Clayton
Candlewick Press, $17.99, 97 pages

Make Magic! Do Good! explains the collection of children’s poems by Dallas Clayton perfectly. The thick book is filled with poems of varying length and style, encouraging readers to feel inspired by the world around them and become the kindest, most generous people they can be.

The poems that fill the book cover topics both children and adults will enjoy: keep old friends and make new ones, help the earth in any way you can and spread love into the world. Each of these ideas are explained through verses and rhymes and sit alongside lightly colored and simple images on each page – similar to the work of Shel Silverstein.

Children will enjoy the wacky illustrated creatures that demonstrate what the poetry is about while absorbing positive messages. The content will be best understood by children between the ages of 4 and 10 but will be enjoyed by all.
