All of Us Villains

We rated this book:

Seven families put forth a champion at each Blood Moon, every twenty years, to battle to the death. The victor earns his or her family sole access to the magic and, therefore, the power until the next Blood Moon. This year, a tell-all has revealed not only the source of the magic to the people but also the privileged champions who will throw their best curses to win. Will it be Gavin, whose family has never won a contest? Will it be Isobel, the favorite of the paparazzi and most likable? Will it be Briony, who has a secret mission within the game? Or will it be Alistair, the most ruthless one of them all? Only time and magic will tell.

Fighting to the death like The Hunger Games, trapped in a field on their own like The Maze Runner, with magic and curses like Harry Potter, this book fills all the voids left by the conclusions of those series. The chapters alternate among several narrators, allowing readers a closer glimpse at each champion. Though the ending was perhaps rushed, it concluded on a cliffhanger that will be answered in the sequel.
