I was promised vampires, and I got vampires. But this book is not about vampires; the characters simply are. It’s about love, loss, relationships, living forever, and how one person’s life can change another’s forever. The characters are fascinating; they mirror each other, but are each different in their own ways. They also develop over the story, it takes place over centuries, and, though at the core, they are who they started as, they also clearly change. Maybe for good, maybe for bad. Even the character who is in the story the least and only takes place over a few days, develops.
There is quite a bit of violence, but for the most part, it isn’t explicit, and it’s used well to show the horror of what was going on. This is not a happy story; it’s dark and fascinating, leaving me with a bittersweet feeling at the end.
There’s heavy cussing throughout and many intimate scenes that are not overly explicit.
