Description
The writer of this memoir lives in Israel and is a devout Jew. The book in the title refers to the Torah, but surprisingly, this is not necessarily a religious book. The writer captures the reader right away by writing about her avid reading. The writer of this book would rather read than do anything, but she has a household to run and children to raise. In an unorthodox fashion, she manages to spend most of her time reading to her children or grabbing seconds of time to read her books or study the Torah.
The fact that she can effortlessly compare the Exodus of the Jews, led by Moses, to the children’s book, But Not the Hippopotamus, both surprised, charmed, and delighted me. As her children grow, the story follows them through adventures in children’s literature, which is age-appropriate, talmudic studies, and such wonderful comparisons. Any reader who loves literature as much as the writer Kurshan will want to read this book and glory in the explorations of family unity and literacy.
