Chirp!: Chipmunk Sings for a Friend

Chipmunk lives on a rock, and all day long until it becomes night, he chirps a song to his friend Rock. Some songs are happy, some are sad, but still, Chipmunk chirps. He wishes someone would chirp back to him. One day, Chipmunk goes looking for a friend and comes home with Pinecone. Pinecone and Rock get along fine and are great listeners, but neither sings along with Chipmunk. Off he goes again to find a friend and runs across Log. When Chipmunk can’t get Log to move, he sits down and chirps a sad song. Raccoon hears him and comes to help, but they can’t move Log. Together they sing a sad, frustrated song that Moose hears. Can they solve the problem together?

Author Jamie A. Swenson has written a sweet story about wanting to find friends and how frustrating it can be, but that it is worth it in the end. The charming illustrations by Scott Magoon are in soft colors and are filled with lots of wonderful details to keep little eyes on the pages as they are listening. This book will become a favorite for little ones.
