Circus of Wonders: A Novel, is a dazzling story about love, redemption, power, and finding your place in the world. Set in the Victorian era, the novel follows Nell, the so-called leopard girl. Covered in birthmarks that ostracize her in her small village, Nell is sold by her father to Jasper Jupiter’s Circus of Wonders where she is utterly transformed from the village freak to The Queen of the Moon and Stars, where the marks on her skin become the constellations she follows to empowerment. Jasper and his photographer brother Toby, ex-soldiers in the Crimean War, run the circus together. Where Jasper is power-hungry and selfish, Toby is kind-hearted and deferent. When Nell finds herself among newfound family instead of circus freaks and begins to fall for Toby, she realizes the extent of her autonomy away from the shadow of Jasper’s ambition and must decide the course of her life by taking fate into her own hands. This story was absolutely mesmerizing and enchantingly written in a way that seems to pull you into the circus ring and dazzle you with each and every turn of the story.
