After being shot during her last case, PI Kelly Pruett is looking to take it easy. Until, that is, an old friend shows up asking her to look for her father, who has been missing for a few weeks. The case sounds simple enough, so Kelly starts to look into it. As she dives into the case, Kelly discovers her friend’s father was a bit of a gambler, and as she follows his trail, she finds herself in the world of horse racing, with possible ties to the mafia. There are also signs that he found out information that could jeopardize a huge deal for a waterpark for the city. The interested parties don’t take kindly to Kelly’s digging. All Kelly knows is she won’t stop her search for justice.

This is another fabulous installment in the Pruett series. Kelly and all the other characters are beyond likable. It’s fun to tag along with her as she figures out the whole PI thing. She’s very relatable as she deals with her feelings and recognizes that she’s not an expert by any means, but she’s trying her best to help those around her. And while those she’s investigating dislike her tenacity, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
