Flora, a frisky and endearing mouse, spends her days with Lion, a dandelion who’s her closest friend. She listens to him whisper to her. They dance with dragons and sail the oceans. She cuddles against his leaves and wraps her long, curly tail around his stem, but as he begins to change and shed his bright yellow petals, Fiona becomes confounded and distraught. She simply can’t understand what’s happening to her favorite companion. Scarecrow encourages Flora to make a wish as he blows the last bit of silvery puff into the air. With time, new seedlings sprout, and she’s certain they were sent by her beloved Lion.

Flora’s Wish is a book about friendship, hope, and resilience as well as daring to imagine. It’s ideal for children ages four to eight and will provide comfort to youth who’ve experienced loss. The text is embellished with rich figurative language. “This time, it was a shimmering cloud of feathered silver,” the author eloquently writes in reference to Lion’s tufts. She’s creative and artful in her use of metaphors and personification as well as imagery. Additionally, her illustrations are eye-catching and decadent. They’re precious and are the perfect compliment to this adorable story.
