Carli dreams of being a songwriter while doing marketing and promotions for big musical artists for her day job. When superstar Tau Anderson becomes her client, she thinks it’s business as usual. He thinks he’s seen a woman he has to be with. Carli repeatedly turns him down because she has her eye on her goals, but he wears her down. Carli feels conflicted over her growing relationship with Tau, her professional path, and her dreams.

This book has a very slow start. It was halfway until the book found its stride. Although marketed as a rom-com, this is more the story of Carli figuring out who she is and what she wants to be in the music industry. The romance feels secondary to Carli’s personal journey.
If readers can make it through the slow opening, they’ll be rewarded with a surprisingly rich dive into Carli’s family dynamic and how quickly things can move in the music industry once the door opens a little.

The chemistry with Tau was lacking for a romance, although both Carli and Tau’s friends comment on how vibrant the characters have become now that they’ve found each other. Overall, if you go into this book without the expectation of a sweeping romance, you’ll probably enjoy it a lot more.
