King Nyx: A Novel

King Nyx tells the tale of Anna and Charles Fort. Charles is a writer of strange phenomena, which tends to be ridiculed by his peers. They are invited to the private island of a millionaire for Charles to write his next book. Once there, they discover that three girls have gone missing and the eccentricities of Charles’ benefactor may actually be more sinister in nature. Anna is determined to find and help these young women, no matter the cost.

There was a lot of promise in this story, but it failed to deliver. I had never heard of Charles Fort before, so a lot of the story was probably lost on me. The reveals at the end would have made the book more intriguing and scary, but the author just kind of dumped it all at the conclusion. This was a slow burn for sure, but more like holding a burning match that blows itself out before reaching your fingers. It’s possible if you enjoyed the author’s first book that you would like this one or if you are a fan of Charles Fort and his //Book of the Damned//. Unfortunately, I don’t fit into either category.
