Description
Billie Campbell is finding her job as an adoption specialist becoming more difficult as she struggles with her own fertility issues. Her husband, Tyler, has yet to tell her that he has doubts about becoming a father, or about the anonymous texts and phone calls he keeps receiving. When Billie’s latest client gives birth to her daughter, the infant goes missing from the hospital. Then Billie herself goes missing. Could Billie not handle the idea that the baby was Not Yours to Keep, or is something more sinister at play?
There are a lot of twists and turns in this story as well as characters with complex issues. While most of the people in the story are making poor choices, you can also understand where they are coming from based on their past experiences. You can tell the author has experience in the adoption world based on the level detail when it comes to the adoption process as well as what people go through when choosing to adopt or put their child up for adoption. Hopefully, what happens here doesn’t occur very often, but Ruskin has done a good job of bringing compassion to some difficult topics.
