Once I Was a Tree by Guilherme Karsten,Eoin McLaughlin

We rated this book:

This is the story of a book told from the book’s point of view. Book starts his story from when he was a big pine tree with birds, squirrels, and moles living in him, but he then takes readers back to when he was a seed. As a seed, he was eaten by a squirrel named Derek. Derek was actually a helper because after he ate the seed, he pooped it out. This is where a beetle named Barbara takes over. She rolls the poop ball containing the seed to a sunny place where the seed puts down roots. He grows into a tall, handsome pine tree until he is cut down and taken to a paper mill.

Author Eoin McLaughlin has written a very clever story filled with humor and a surprising amount of good information. Kids will be laughing while they are learning. The writing is snappy, and the story is great fun. Bright, cartoony illustrations are filled with fun details that will have little listeners engaged with every page. If the adults get tired of reading what will be a very popular book, they can scan a code for a free audio version.
