Description

Fabrice Valentine works in a large headhunting firm in France. Like some of his colleagues, he’s an avid smoker, but a younger employee has started a campaign to ban smoking in the building. Fabrice is beside himself at the prospect of not being able to smoke when and where he prefers. His wife, on the other hand, is not bothered at all. She detests his smoking habit and convinces him to see a hypnotist. But when things don’t go to plan, Fabrice’s world is turned upside down. If he can’t find any pleasure in his smoking habit, will it lead him to kill? Read along and find out.

I’m a big fan of Antoine Laurain, but I have to admit that I had mixed feelings about his book. Yes, it’s comical, and it has the French characters we love so well. But the storyline didn’t grab me, and overall, I didn’t feel that unique electrical thread that always pulls me through his best stories. If you are already a fan of Mr. Laurain, I would suggest reading this. If you want to discover this writer, I would suggest starting with one of his previous works, such as French Windows, Vintage 1954, or French Rhapsody.
