Description
Stefan and Agnes wake up to a new world. Their village is covered in white, fluffy snow, the first snow of the year. There is something magical about the first snow The children are anxious to get into their outdoor clothes and get outside. Everything looks so different! They make snow angels. They find tracks in the snow and start to dig the path but then decide to build … a polar bear! They climb atop the bear and ride off into the snowy world. They visit ice floes in the great North, seeing seals, whales, and forests before returning to their own backyard, where they feed the birds.
Author Radek Malý has written a sweet story about the special magic of a first snow. Youngsters will relate to the children in the story and their magical journey as something many have experienced themselves and will have their imaginations fueled for any forays into what otherwise might be a mundane activity. The enchanting illustrations by Marie Štumpfová echo the muted feel of a first snow. The color palette is soft blues, greens, peach, yellow, and brown, and have a chalky look to them. Lovely book.
