Description
Bestselling author Tana French returns to the modern Irish countryside in a novel which feels like it could have been shorter and about how revenge is not always the solution to everything. Trey is a young girl trying to survive on the edges of the Irish rural economy. She helps her family by refurbishing furniture and selling it at flea markets. She is assisted by recent settler Cal, who is a cop from the United States who decided to retire in rural Ireland. When Trey’s father unexpectedly returns, long-held family secrets will be revealed and revenge will all be on the table as characters will need to make life altering choices.
I have been a fan of French since The Searcher but this book is not one of my favorites. I am not entirely sure if it was the change of scenery from urban to rural, the language I am not used to reading, or that it is one of her more dense books, not just in terms of length but also her descriptive language which goes on for pages. If this book was under two hundred and fifty pages it would have been better.
