The Last to See Her: A Novel
The Last to See Her is a story that unravels its layers chapter by chapter. Gen is a romance novel writer whose heart is shattered when she finds out that her husband, Thad, a successful lawyer, is cheating on her. Then Gen disappears after a fun night out in New York City with her sister, Meg. Was Gen kidnapped or did she run away? The people in this book have secrets like no other, but between the detective on the case, Hawkins, and the private investigator Gen had hired before her disappearance, these secrets are revealed one by one.
I rather enjoyed the cast of characters in this book; however, both Meg and Thad seemed to be really self-centered and unlikable. In contrast, the detective and the private investigator were both very likable. Hawkins, the detective, reminded me a bit of an Indiana Jones-type character due to his unconventional scruffiness and bluntness. And Jenkins, the P.I., was like a father figure to Gen, which made his job feel even closer to home than with other clients.
The Last to See Her is a pageturner you’ll want to finish in one sitting just to see what happens in the end.
