The Summer We Started Over: A Novel

Romance is not a genre which generally interests me, although I found this book well written and interesting. Two sisters live in radically different worlds. The older sister, Eddie, is a personal assistant to a romance writer who is an international star. She lives in New York and has become accustomed to a glamorous life. The younger sister has taken a road of hard work to save money. She lives with her father and is about to fulfill her dream of having her own little retail business in Nantucket.

The capable Eddie returns home to help her but discovers that there is great disorganization in their family home. This being a romance, a former lover returns to woo Eddie, while the younger sister cultivates a similar beau. For this reader, the relationships are a little too pat, but I guess that is following the proscribed genre. The story has another layer as Eddie’s boss comes to the island and discovers Eddie’s divorced dad; still attractive, but hard to get. It is a fun book to read.
