The Sustainable Mediterranean Diet Cookbook

We rated this book:

$24.95

This cookbook focuses on sustainability and advocates considering the environment when making mealtime choices. The main themes are waste reduction (through recycling and more efficient food usage), eating in season, buying local, growing or foraging some of your food, and being mindful of sustainability when selecting your food (such as seafood and other meats). Most of the suggestions add up to small changes that readers can make without much disruption.

The recipes are divided into eleven sections categorized by mealtime or food type (seafood, desserts, snacks, etc.). Each section contains around ten recipes. Each recipe has a list of ingredients, the number of servings, prep time, and preparation instructions. It also has nutrition information (calories, fat, carbs, etc.). Labels on the top indicate if it is dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan, making it easier to skip recipes depending on your diet. About half the recipes have pictures of the finished product.

The recipes have been modified, so the ingredients are easily available to American consumers. Some are a unique spin on traditional Mediterranean recipes. In addition, most recipes end with kitchen hacks that further encourage recycling. The recipes are geared towards casual cooks and recommended for readers interested in making minor changes to mealtime to eat healthier and more sustainable meals.
