Description
Bear has a short, stubby tail, but Bear likes his tail. Beaver asks if Bear’s tail can help him swim. It can’t. Opossum wonders if Bear’s tail can hold things. Not exactly. Bird asks if Bear’s tail can help him fly as hers does. Nope. Skink’s tail is detachable when he is in danger. Squirrel’s tail helps him keep his balance when he is scampering through the trees. Fox uses his thick, fluffy tail like a blanket. And so it goes as Bear visits many of his woodland friends. If Bear’s tail doesn’t have a reason, is it any good? Bear needs to figure this out for himself.
M.C. Kasper is both the author and the illustrator of this cute picture book. Young listeners will find the wide variety of animals populating the story to be interesting and fun, and they will be learning a good deal of information about all those creatures. The approach of focusing on the animals’ tails is a fresh take on animal books for kids. That should engage youngsters, particularly those two to four years old. The illustrations are quite simple, but just right for this book.
