Description
Welcome, Little Squirrel by Daniel Cañas is a story about a squirrel named Hazelnut who has her home in the tree, all ready for the winter. But when a group of beavers accidentally chew her tree down, Hazelnut no longer has a home. The beavers offer her their home, but she must help them build a dam. She decides it’s not for her, and so she thanks the beavers and moves on. Then, she meets a group of bats. But Hazelnut can’t hang upside down all day and night. She decides to keep moving. Next is the home of the hares. Winter is here, and Hazelnut can’t blend in. It’s cold and dangerous for her. Finally, she finds a group of squirrels who welcome her. Here, she feels at home, and the rules are the same as when she had her own home.
This book has beautiful color illustrations by Veronica Aranda that children will love. Hazelnut the Squirrel is simply adorable, as are the many other characters in the book. Children will love following along to this sweet story.
