Comprehensive Guide to Building Muscle the Correct Way

By Brett Stewart & Jason Warner
Ulysses Press, $14.95, 160 pages

Brett Stewart and Jason Warner have created a complete day-by-day program in their book 7 Weeks to 10 Pounds of Muscle. Both authors are athletes and personal trainers. The book is divided into five parts: overview, programs, nutrition, kitchen and exercises. The overview is quick to point out the basics such as body type, eating right and getting enough rest. The book also notes that each person’s body is different and will therefore respond to training at a different pace.

The program chapter covers the various training styles and provides beginning, intermediate and advanced workout charts outlining the number of sets and number of reps for each exercise. The nutrition chapter reveals basic nutritional principles as well as the science behind nutrition. The kitchen chapter includes the authors’ top 10 food picks and a meal plan. Also included are pre- and post-workout recipes. Finally, the book covers specific exercises in the exercises chapter. Pictures and specific directions accompany the various exercises. The book concludes with stretches accompanied by pictures and specific directions.

7 Weeks to 10 Pounds of Muscle offers information and instruction for athletes at any level. The book is comprehensive, and it is obvious that the authors are knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. The photos, although black and white, offer guidance for completing the exercises properly.
