Books Make Good Friends

Lotti really loves to read. Books, Lotti says, can transport readers anywhere. School is a difficult place for Lotti because she is awfully shy and just doesn’t understand how to make friends, so she spends her free time reading, but she would like to have friends other than her books. Even when their family goes on a hike, Lotti takes books to read during the picnic. And she doesn’t spend time with her brother. He likes to draw and she would rather read. But through reading, she decides to try making art with her brother and has fun. Then at the library, she discovers other kids who seem to like the same books she likes. Maybe talking to some of them might be okay.

Jane Mount is both the author and illustrator of this book about books and how magical they are. Throughout the book, Lotti tells the readers about some of her favorite books and why she likes them. Readers are sure to find some new books to read. When readers see Lotti come out of her shell, they might be inspired to try making new friends. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is sweet.
