Hooray for Fall!

When Mick, Mack, and Molly come home from helping Papa collect nuts, they find Mama busy knitting. The three kits ask what Mama is working on, but she says they will have to wait and see. Mama works late into the night while the little ones sleep. Winter is coming soon.

In the morning when the kits wake up, Mama has a pretty red sweater for each of them. The kits go out into the woods and visit with some birds, showing off their sweaters. The bird says they will keep the kits warm in the winter, but she and her children will fly to a warm place. As the kits visit different places in the forest, they see many things that are turning red in the fall, the color of their sweaters.

Kasuo Iwamura has written a sweet book that is the perfect story for crisp fall days, reminding little ones of the coming winter and all the changes that take place in autumn. The real star of the book, though, is the gorgeous illustrations throughout the book. The characters are charming, the colors are beautiful, and the lyrical text will warm little hearts.
