Description
June Jones is a library assistant who has never left her small hometown of Chalcot, feeling tethered there following the death of her mother. The Chalcot Library is under threat of closure, and June is devastated that a place filled with memories of her late mother may soon be lost. Library patrons band together to save the library and enlist June to join the cause. But will she come out of her shell to fight for her beloved safe haven?
What a heartwarming and charming story about the importance of libraries! The story focuses on June, who is a bit of a hermit and uncomfortable socializing, instead finding comfort in books and solitude. Once the library faces closure, June learns more about the regular Chalcot Library patrons and realizes that these acquaintances are actually friends. Stanley is an adorable character with a difficult past, and I loved the friendship between him and June. This book made me reflect on time spent in my local library as a child and reminisce about favorite books I read there. The Last Chance Library made me smile endlessly, and I craved the Chinese food June and Alex shared after reading!
