“The lion is no longer in its cage. Benyamin is gone. Altair is captured. The Jawarat is bound to Zafira. Nasir is losing control of his magic. Not much else can go wrong for the zumra, or so it would seem. But between betrayals, arrogant safin and Zafira losing herself, the lion gains the upper hand and all may be lost. All the while, Zafira and Nasir are falling into something that could be their undoing.

In the conclusion to Sands of Arawiya the zumra faces the end, and some may not survive. The end was a bit of an almost unexpected twist that fits the characters and brought the duology to a wrapped up conclusion. The characters continue to grow and change from who they were in the beginning, relationships blossom, though some are not what they appeared at first. I love Altair and Kifah’s relationship; they’re friends and stay friends with fun banter that, even when separate, is still there.”
